The Definition of a diary: is somethign written, about subsequent events, or soemthign like that.
And she, as the child, isnt speaking.
The words, are sposed to convey the feelings, this mute child, not nescessarily mute, but not able to speak, through maybe shes to shy or something.
Which is why its a diary, it shows the feelings that bind her to the actions and events of her life.
